Recent news:

March 2024: Congratulations to Athena, Isra, and Tara for having their work accepted for publication and presenation at the 2024 ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition. In total, our group members co-authored 4 accepted papers.

January 2024: Our paper Robust Hybrid Wide-Area Damping Control for Power Systems with Communication Errors was accepted for publication and presentation at the 2024 American Control Conference.

October 2023: We presented our paper Exploring the Impact of a Supportive Scholarship Program on Engineering Transfer Students’ Learning Strategies at the 2023 IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference.

September 2023: Our paper Performance and dynamics of California offshore wind alongside Western U.S. onshore wind and solar power was published in the journal Renewable Energy Focus.

May 2023: David Copp received the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor of the Year Award, presented by UCI's Engineering Student Council. Thank you to the students for this great honor!

May 2023: David Copp was a recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentorship from the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program within the Division of Undergraduate Education at UCI.

May 2023: Congratulations to the UCI CubeSat team for winning a Dean's Choice Award at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering's Annual Design Review and having their project poster published.

April 2023: Congratulations to Tara Esfahani for presenting her paper In Their Own Words: How Engineering Students Adapted to Disruptive Transitions Between Online and In-Person Learning at the 2023 ASEE Pacific Southwest Conference.

Brief Biography:

David Copp is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Arizona and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After his Ph.D., he worked on grid integration, analysis and control of grid-scale energy storage systems in a postdoctoral position and then as a senior member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His broad research interests include engineering education, as well as control and optimization of nonlinear and hybrid systems with applications to power and energy systems, multi-agent systems, robotics and biomedicine.
